Monitor advice

Looking at the monitor below, as its on sale at the minute. was over 300 now down to £127 quid. Now reviews seem good but i’m not second question myself because of a few things, namely the res but dont think my pc could run a 27 inch at much higher. Any advice would be great.

What’s your GPU at the moment fella?

970 GTX I believe

Asus GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card according to my emails

few more questions:

what is your current resolution and refresh rate? also monitor size i suppose.
can you tell what refresh rate that monitor is, i don’t see it in the spec. A quick google suggested 60Hz.

It think that one is 60Hz, I’ve a 21/22inch Acer atm. that is about as much as I can tell you at the minute.

could someone who’s not stuck updating vulnerability intelligence tickets (sigh) check benchmarks for the 970 at 2560x1440?

Hammy, what’s you preference; smoother video/higher FPS (needing a higher frequency monitor), or resolution? depending on what you’ve currently got, going to 1080p@60Hz on a 27 inch screen (there’s at least a good chance you’re currently on 1080p@60Hz on a 21-22 inch screen) might not give you the sort of upgrade you’re looking for, depending on what that is.

A 970 should be able to get an average 50 FPS on BF4 at 2560x1440 with ultra settings.

That’s not too shabby.

If you’re willing to concede a few engine settings, you should be able to hit 60FPS without too much bother.

I’ve never been too fussed about hitting 60 fps. Most times on arma 3 i play at 30ish and notice little difference to when it runs at 60.

I wasn’t really looking to upgrade but I seen that at that price and though ohhh bigger monitor.

What the fuck am I on about!?

I have a 970 myself and I’m running 3440x1440 without any hassle at all!

as you’re not fussed about the fps as much, and you’re not looking for higher refresh rate as a result, i’d consider looking at 2560x1440 panels, or even join 3440x1440 club with the rest of us.

this is the cheapest 2560x1440 i could find around that size:

cheeky shout out for this if you fancy something different; it’d be the equivalent of your current screen just getting wider:

Caolan, why are you on a 970 still? that’s not what we had planned! Am i going to have to downgrade to keep in line with the ziip advised hardware configuration?

Ah fuck, need to look into this more. lol

ok, this one has a higher refresh rate. thoughts?

I have the AOC 2560x1440 monitor that @adrock mentioned above, but in 32" (Q3277PQU)

It is fucking epic. I swear, once you go to QHD or 4K, you’ll think 1080P is butt ugly.

Just a bit out of my price range though.

Even the 27" version?

Yeah, reason for me even looking was the price of that 1st one.

Depending on the resolutoin I wouldn’t go above 1080p on a 27" monitor. Seems to be the sweetspot.

With that said, seen a few deals for monitors:

Heres a few I saved:

EDIT: The first monitor is 144hz and 1080p, would be pretty fantastic for gaming, also has FreeSync so if you have an AMD graphics card it would be a great combo. The second is a curved, 1080p 27" monitor - either would be very nice to use

I’ve had my Samsung 27" for a few years now & know I had at least the old 560 Ti (infact think it was the 8800 when I got it) so the 970 will run 1900 x1080 no problem (my res is 1900 x 1200 @ 60Hz) There are some decent Samsung on Amazon inc a few LED ones like this one:

Or there’s a 24" curved LED for £119

that is my current monitor, though it maybe the previous version, as mine is at least 7 years old.
